“Yoga is not about touching your toes. It is what you learn on the way down.” – Jigar Gor

Meet Kirsty

Kirsty is a life-long yogi, pranayama (breathwork) facilitator and nutritionist working in Melbourne’s north-east. She discovered her love of yoga at just 14, when she began attending classes with her mum in a local church hall. Since then, yoga has been an important and cherished companion throughout the health challenges that have shaped her.

Kirsty grew up singing and spent years performing in bands, writing and recording music. In 2008 she began her tertiary studies embarking on a Bachelor of Music (Classical Voice), a journey that was interrupted by the life-altering diagnosis of a spinal tumour, which threatened to paralyse her. Following years of experimental chemotherapy and a full spinal resection, including the placement of titanium rods along her spine, Kirsty’s recovery journey became one of her most powerful teachers. During her healing, there were long periods where Kirsty was bed-bound and unable to exercise or practice yoga. This is when she discovered the profound benefits of pranayama and meditation – practices that are now core aspects of her teaching.

In 2011, she completed her Advanced Diploma of Yoga Teaching at the Australian Yoga Academy. Her personal experience with physical limitations, serious illness and chronic pain has shaped her teaching style into one grounded in compassion, accessibility, and the intelligent use of props to support each student’s unique requirements. She takes a hands on approach. Where adjusting is fast becoming a lost art, Kirsty believes it is a crucial tool in connecting with and deepening the practice of her students.

Furthering her interest in health and wellbeing, in 2016, Kirsty graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science in Nutrition from Endeavour College of Natural Health. She is enthusiastic about a wholistic approach to wellbeing that treats the person and not just the diagnosis. She loves to cook and teaching her clients to utilise food as medicine.

Kirsty is also the author of Gutter Glitter, a raw and inspiring memoir chronicling her journey through spinal cancer, chronic illness, grief and the transformation that followed. Her lived experience informs a deeply human and realistic approach to health, one that embraces imperfection, balance, and radical self-compassion. She believes that true wellness isn’t about rigid ideals but about doing the best we can with what we have, and meeting ourselves with kindness along the way.

Today, Kirsty teaches a dedicated community of students in Melbourne’s north-east, offering varying styles of yoga, pranayama classes and workshops. She also provides private one on one, small group, and corporate sessions.
